Emily Gates is the owner of the firm and a committed advocate for individuals and families navigating the justice system. With a practice focused on Family Law and Criminal Defense, Emily brings years of hands-on courtroom experience, strategic insight, and a deep sense of empathy to every client she serves.
Originally from Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Emily learned the values of grit and determination by watching her mother run a successful art business from their home while raising her daughters and several German Shepherds. That same entrepreneurial spirit and work ethic led Emily to pursue a career in law at a young age. She began shadowing a family friend and mentor—an experienced criminal defense attorney who owned his own practice and introduced her to the courtroom long before law school.
Emily earned her bachelor’s degree in Criminology with a minor in Pre-Law from the University of Tampa and went on to receive her J.D. from the Charleston School of Law. Throughout her academic journey, she immersed herself in the legal profession: working as a legal assistant, a trial practices intern for a national jury consulting group located in Tampa, Florida, and a law clerk at a respected family law firm, where she later became an associate.
Before founding her firm, Emily served as the juvenile prosecutor for four years in South Carolina’s First Circuit Solicitor’s Office, where she handled hundreds of cases ranging from murder to minor offenses like shoplifting. This experience gave her a deep understanding of the criminal justice system and solidified her reputation as a tenacious and ethical attorney.
Emily is licensed to practice in South Carolina and Washington, D.C. She is especially passionate about advocating for children and families in crisis, bringing both strength and compassion to sensitive legal matters.
Emily is a determined, prepared, and passionate advocate who never loses sight of what’s at stake. Whether in family court or criminal court, she is deeply committed to protecting her clients' rights and helping them move forward with confidence.
When not in Court or at the office, Emily enjoys spending time with her nephews and her Golden Retriever, Blu.
